How to write a cover letter?


The cover letter is a way for you to list the qualifications and requirements posted in the advertisement and indicate how you meet them. It’s also the first sight for the employer to judge whether you are the right person that they want. You need to read and understand the company’s history and the culture, try to impress the hiring person and make them sure that you can really help the company’s development.

Ask yourself below questions when you star to write a cover letter:

  • Who am I and where am I?
  • Where did I hear about the advertisement?
  • Am I the kind of person they are looking for?
  • What can I do for this company? What can I provide relevant to the job?
  • Can I handle the work demands, based on the job description?

Above questions will be the guide during your writing, thinking carefully and try to answer each of them though your cover letter.

Tips of a cover letter:

  • Describe yourself clearly and reasonably.
  • Give a brief summary of your educational achievements, experience, qualities, capabilities and skills.
  • Express your potential to fulfill the employer’s needs rather than focus on what the employer can offer you.
  • Show what you are interested; also indicate your career objective.
  • Emphasize your achievements and problem-solving skills.
  • Should never show out any negative emotions though the whole cover letter.
  • Try your best to avoid spelling mistakes, double check every word carefully.
  • Limit the length to one page only.
